Darlington, MD – At approximately 9:30 AM on Sunday, March 2, 2025, Level Volunteer Fire Company (VFC) was dispatched to assist Darlington Fire Company, to a reported two-story house fire in the 4000 block of Conowingo Road, Darlington, Maryland. Initial reports indicated that both persons and a dog were trapped inside the structure, prompting an urgent and coordinated response from multiple fire companies across Harford County.

Level VFC arrived on scene with Engine 113, Tanker K1, and Rescue Engine 1, deploying a crew of 10 dedicated firefighters. The response was bolstered by mutual aid from neighboring departments, including Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company, which sent Engine 315 and Rescue 3 with 9 firefighters; Darlington Volunteer Fire Company with Engine 911; Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company contributing Truck 6 and Tanker 6 with a crew of 6; Susquehanna Hose Company with Engine 515; and Water Witch Fire Company with Truck 72. The Harford County Sheriff’s Office was also present, responding to reports of squatters occupying the residence.

Firefighters worked swiftly and efficiently to bring the blaze under control. Conowingo Road was closed in both directions to ensure the safety of responders and the public as crews operated on scene. Thanks to the rapid and coordinated efforts of all involved, the trapped dog was rescued unharmed, and no injuries were reported among residents or emergency personnel.

This incident comes on the heels of a busy weekend for Level VFC. On Saturday, March 1, the company hosted its annual awards banquet to honor the commitment and service of its members. Despite the celebratory occasion, Level VFC firefighters responded to 18 emergency calls throughout the day, pausing the banquet each time to serve the community. The house fire on March 2 further exemplifies the unwavering dedication of these volunteers, not only to Darlington but also to surrounding areas.

“These events are a testament to the resilience and selflessness of our firefighters,” David Kampfer, a member of Level VFC. “Even during a time meant to recognize their hard work, our team remained ready to answer the call, showcasing the strength of our commitment to public safety.”
